Facebook to Bring Holographic Optics

At Oculus Connect 6, Facebook Reality Labs introduced two new prototypes of miniaturization progress in virtual reality. The first is Half Dome 2, which uses varifocal displays to improve visual and physical comfort. The second is Half Dome 3, which uses a variety of lenses to improve the user’s experience.

Facebook is announcing a new optical architecture that it says will be very compact and will have better visual performance. The new design is based on a three-layered structure that uses two lenses in each eye to create a virtual reality experience.

This new design is based on the use of a holographic mirror that can be folded to create a virtual reality headset. The mirror is then used to create a three-dimensional image of the user’s eye, which can be used to fold the image into different shapes and sizes. This allows for a much more realistic and lifelike experience when using virtual reality headsets.

This new design will help in creating better VR hardware by making the optics thinner and more practical.

A new technology has been developed that achieves a thickness of 9mm in a “proof-of-concept research” device, and it compares well with the field of view that comes in today’s consumer VR products. ..

Virtual Reality is set to undergo a major transformation with the introduction of new holographic optics technology. This will make the current large VR headsets much smaller and more practical to wear, while also providing a wider color gamut. ..

With this new development, Facebook is moving a step ahead towards making AR/VR very practical and easy to use in day to day life. This is all still in the research phase and surely will have some limitations but when it will come to reality, that will be really interesting to see.
