Since last year we have been hearing about a new feature called “Fast Share” which is supposedly coming to Android. Yesterday, Google announced its Nearby Share which allows users to share files, images, documents, and other data easily.
Airdrop’s rival Nearby Share Finally Arrives
Google is testing a new feature called Nearby Share that allows users to share photos and videos nearby with other Google users. The feature is in beta testing and is expected to go live in the coming weeks.
Nearby share is a new file sharing app that is similar to Apple’s Airdrop service. You don’t need to open any app and share a file using it, and Nearby share finally arrives with solutions of such issues. If you want to share any file from one Android smartphone to another Android smartphone, just tap on the share icon, then select Nearby share. Now, no more bulky and malicious file sharing app for Android! Share your data conveniently and securely with Google’s Nearby share.
Nearby share lets you share files using various methods including Bluetooth, Bluetooth Low Energy, WebRTC, or peer-to-peer Wi-Fi. If your device is connected to the internet, Nearby share will automatically pick up the method that is fastest for it. However, Google says that this feature doesn’t require an internet connection and can be used offline.
Nearby Share is a feature that works between Android smartphones and Chromebooks. Google plans to expand the feature to additional platforms in the future.
In order to transfer files from your phone to your Windows PC wirelessly, you’ll need to use one of the following methods:
- Use a USB cable to connect your phone to your computer.
- Use a wireless network connection and transfer files using the File Transfer Wizard.
